The proof is in the pudding
Michael worked in the banking industry for twenty years. In April 2009 he decided he’d had enough and wanted to be his own boss and try a new challenge. He’d thought
for some time about running his own pub. Being new to the industry he approached JW Lees and enquired what was involved. He decided to join the company and set
his heart on the Farmers Arms. This was a bold step
and a leap of faith on his part.
In less than a year, Michael has increased beer sales at the pub by over 20%. Michael puts his success down to his entertainment schedule, hard work, and ensuring his pub is an important part of the local community. Though Michael is keen to point out, he couldn’t have done any
of it without the loyal support of his wife Margaret.
Michael holds a quiz night every Thursday, with live
music and karaoke every Friday and Saturday as well. The Farmers Arms now hosts the local neighbourhood watch meeting, proving Michael’s commitment for his
pub to be viewed as part of the community.

Michael says “I’ve loved the challenge of running my own pub. It’s been hard work but it’s definitely paying off. It’s a great feeling to wake up every day knowing that I’m my own boss and I can reap the rewards of my own successes.” Good work Michael, you’ve got the thumbs up from us! ![]() Michael at the Farmers Arms, Prestwich John and Amanda had never run a pub before and have now won an award.
